Electronic 1098T

Each January Appalachian State University Provides an IRS form 1098-T (Information reporting for qualified tuition and related expenses). Federal Regulation 26 CFR 1.6050S-2 allows for an institution to provide an electronic delivery method of this tax document.  In tax year 2018 and prior, Appalachian State University  provided an electronic "opt-in" consent to be confirmed inside AppalNet Self Service allowing the document to be provided electronically.  Beginning with the tax year 2019 this process will now be transitioned to the Touchnet Billing and Payment Center.  Since this would qualify as a "Change in software" (Federal Regulation 26 CFR1.6050S-2(a)iii), we must have a new "opt-in" consent to receive the IRS form 1098-T electronically.  To receive the 1098-T electronically please follow the steps listed below.

Upon logging in to the Touchnet Billing and Payment Center, a "Paperless 1098-T Option" will be presented before being able to view your account information.  You (Students Only) may either select "I Do Not Consent", " Accept Consent", or click the "x" in the top right-hand corner of the box.  If you are unsure, selecting the "x" will mean that you are undecided and will continue to generate this option until a decision has been selected.  Once selected, this will be your consent decision until further notice.  If at any time you wish to change your decision, please log in to the Touchnet Billing and Paymet Center, select "consents", and then edit your selection.  Selecting "I do not consent" means that you will continue to receive the IRS Form 1098-T via US Mail.

Anticipated release date for 2021 1098-T, depends on processing time but, is anticipated to be during the week of January 27th, 2022.
